New Shop!

I know I've been extremely quiet on this blog as of late, but I promise you, I've been a very busy bee.

I'm beyond excited to have opened up a new shop! Nook will still be running as I always have been, offering private lessons and sample knitting... but I've also branched out to own Goodnight Baby By Nook!

Over the years I've often posted about work knitting, though I've never mentioned more than that. What I had been doing was knitting for Goodnight Mouse Baby Knits. I've had the joy of knitting for Jessica, and I've made such a great friend in her. As life would have it, Jessica has also become a successful photographer, and has a business doing so. Painted Barn Photography.  As you can see from the photos above, she's very talented! And so, as life with 3 boys keeps her on her toes, running both businesses just wasn't in the cards. And so I've taken the opportunity to take on the knitting shop. I am so excited to continue on in this venture and to keep knitting high quality, beautiful baby items for you all. I am looking forward to adding new items and designs to accompany these classic staples.

This is an extremely exciting adventure, and I hope you'll come on by my new facebook page and etsy shop! As I mentioned before, Nook will still remain very much the same. That facebook page will still include fun knitterly thoughts and advice, as well as an update on any upcoming events (ahem christmas markets already!?!?), Goodnight Baby is simply an extension :)

Thank you all so much for your support over the years! It gives me confidence to continue on with my dreams :) I'm so happy to be able to share this one with you.

eye candy

sooo i caught myself thinking and planning holiday knits recently.

but before you flick me upside the head remember the magic word is that i caught myself. i know i know! we're barely into summer and here i am thinking about the cold weather.
i can't really help it though. being a knitter is time consuming, and we really have to plan out our projects. i'm hoping to do markets again this year, so that means some serious planning on upping my stock. (as currently, i have very little). but before you get your panties all in a twist, i am thinking lots of lovely summer knits too. lace, and fingering weights, lots of airy knits and socks!
because those are always easy to carry around :)
i really want to hang on to as much as i possibly can this summer. with my little man starting kindergarten in september (don't worry.. i'm saving the breakdown until at least the end of august) i want to enjoy this time. we have lots planned for the summer. we're actually going on 2 pretty big trips that we're uber excited about!
i do have a few lovlies planned here for while i'll be away though.
but let's get back to the current season, m'kay?
want to know what i can't get enough of these days? bright, cheerful colours!

i'm especially excited about some very bright and colourful sock yarns.... like this one:
Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

ummm isn't it amazing??? it's from this etsy shop. and it's definitely on my radar. actually any of the colourways for this yarn i'm totally on board for .... just sayin'.

what about you? what's your current yarn eye candy? are you into some sock knitting these days? are you enjoying your upcoming summer? tell me you have actually thought about winter knits already though... so i'm not the only one :) xo

i'm in trouble.... haha

i feel terribly sidetracked. why? because two new issues of knitterly goodness has been released, just today. i can't focus. i feel itchy to cast on something new... to get armloads of yarn for all of these projects.

oh but wait, let me actually tell you what i'm talking about!

i'm sure many of you are aware that we've been teased enough this past week by brooklyn tweed and his crew with the release of wool people 5. well geez, it's amazing. i mean, have you seen the look book? gah. so much lace and cably goodness. though i really would expect no less... i'm definitely on a shawl kick here.. just loving so many of them! i have to say though, amherst has caught my eye. i could see myself cozying up in this dress in the fall. rockin' it with some tall boots? and an uber bright coloured shawl? yeah... but i'm also loving bolt (because well it's veera. and she really doesn't ever disappoint) and there are just so many options with stripes, you know?

gah, i'm just loving them all...
and oh, did you also see that pom pom quarterly has released their summer issue? i need to knit every thing in this issue. for real. i'm loving it all!!!

and bonus, one of my friends caitlin ffrench has not one but two patterns in this issue!!!! hurrah!  so proud of her!!! and in case you were wondering, caitlin also dyes her own yarns using the coolest, and natural methods. i have a skein of hers that was dyed using onion skins. !! check out her etsy shop.

sadly, i can't get a hard copy here in canada!! sadface. but i'm on a mission ;)

guys. my queue has increased tenfold. (and then some). i'm in trouble. lol! i'm dizzy i'm so excited about all of these new patterns. i want to head to my LYS and stock up.. then drink ridiculious amounts of caffeine so that i can sit and knit non.stop.  sigh. haha i'm in love..!!!! and totally sidetracked. lol. i have to focus. ***shakes head**** ok. bring it.
it's amazing weather out. and knitting is portable. let's see what damage i can do, hey? xo

have you seen these new issues? anything you just have to knit? are you as excited as i am about these patterns? come chat! i'd love to enable chat knitterly goodness with you. ;) xo

yum

just thought i'd share with you a little peek at what i'm working with for one of the projects on the needles... but i'm gonna be mean and not tell you what i'm knitting. ha. not because i want to be mean.. i just can't tell you ;)

isn't it pretty?? so so pretty. this is yarn from em of everything old crafts. and it's the first time i've knit with her yarn! i love it. to bits. and bits. the colour is just stunning. so rich, and deep.

anyways. just thought i'd show ya. and let you know that i seriously love knitting with it. and maybe you should check out her shop.

any yarns you're totally digging lately? something new to you and want to share so we can all try? come chat! i have LOTS of coffee . heaps really. the market is in just 2 days! i don't think i'll sleep until then ;) xo

trades are awesome

there are lots of reasons why i love markets.. lots and lots... but one of the reasons is the chance to meet some very talented artisans... and often, you'll find some who are totally into trades!
i met my friend jana of janamade at a market a while back... and we've since kept in touch. i have blogged about her before... when we swapped for one of my fave rings.

she's ridiculiously talented, and the total bonus is that she's local to me! haha the market we met at was not in victoria, so it was a surprise to find that we both had traveled from the same area. haha.
anyways... a few months back, we decided to make a swap. she snagged some adorable mosnters, in exchange for whatever she wanted to design for me :)

i know i love her style... in fact, i had to walk away with some gorgeous earrings from the owl designer fair... they are just so lovely....( and of course, as much as i like trades, i like to support her too! )

and i wanted to give her the oppertunity to have free rein over the design. and what she came up with is just simply awesome. !!!

don't you love it?
she knows me so well! i can't wait to see it in person!!! only one more week... as we'll be both be at the february fox fair!

be sure to check out her blog post about the necklace... and she's got some seriously fab jewelry up in her etsy shop!!! be sure to stop by her shop!

i'm so glad it's the weekend... here's hoping i catch up on some serious market knitting... and maybe just maybe start a selfish project? hmmmm what are you working on this weekend? xo

becca's cabled boot cuffs!

i promised you on friday that i had something special to share with you today, didn't i? haha. well i do! though it's taken me longer to figure out all of the online stuff as i'd like to... (isn't it always that way)..

anyhoo, on with the show! check out my first pattern!!!

becca's cabled boot cuffs are knit with a very soft blend of alpaca, and are so cozy and warm! they take only approx 100g of yarn, so you can knit two (2) pairs with one skein! one for you and one for a friend. perfect!

having more of the ribbing at one end allows for versatility with how you choose to wear the cuff.

these boot cuffs are knit flat and then seamed together.the finished cuff measures approximately 11 in/28cm in circumference, and 6 in/15cm in height.
i really heart these. they are the warmest.
my hubby brought the yarn back from peru for me. and it's been patiently waiting for the perfect pattern, i'm so happy i can make that special pattern one of my own!

and i absolutely love the addition of cables, and twisted stitches.

these boot cuffs don't take very long to knit at all, and would be a great addition to christmas gifts, or even a quick treat for yourself! (wink wink)

i'm thrilled to be able to share the news of this pattern with you first!

right now you can find the pattern in my etsy shop and in ravelry! i'm so excited to see all of the variations of these boot cuffs. :)

i wanted to release this pattern to give you knitters time to complete some in time for gift giving if you wanted to! i really hope you love them as much as i do!

find more of my patterns and products on:

happy knitting!!

so what do you think? are you a boot cuff kind of person? are you a fan of cables? i'd love hear from you!! come share my happy dance with me ;) xo

11.07.2012

heaps of knitting.....

this is what's pretty much going on here... non-stop!...why? because i've got a market coming up!!

the house is surrounded by vast amounts of yarn, and i have the most patient little boy ever. it has to be said. of course, he does have some extra requests of things for me to knit.... like a christmas stocking... making me busier than ever, but i don't mind....
this of course explains why i've been a bit quieter than usual on the blog, and in ravelry groups as well...

i get so excited for winter markets, and this year will be my first "real" year of winter markets. hurrah!!!

the facebook event can be found here. and i honestly would be beyond excited if you could come! please be sure to stop my my booth and say hi!

so in the next little while, (as i have just over 2 weeks until this fantastic event) you'll probably be hearing about market prep, and any new exciting things being added to the booth, and the etsy shop! hurrah! (and maybe a few extra goodies!)... 'tis the season!

are you a market seller? a market shopper? what are the things you love most about holiday markets? let's chat... i'll make apple cider ;) xo

ready for winter

i am very excited for the winter season.

aka knitting season. it's one of my most favourite times of the year! this absolutely stunning photograph is by erwin loewen. i love his work. and his passion for photography coupled with his sheer talent makes for some incredible work. make sure you take a look at his sites. you'll be blown away.

doesn't she look so cozy in the marian cowl? love it! thank you so very much erwin for including some of my hand-knits in your photo shoots. my smile couldn't be bigger right now :)
the marian cowl will be listed in the shop very very soon. just have a colour chart to create...
and there are many colours available!

keep a close eye on the shop! these will make fantastic gifts, and treats for yourself in this cold, damp, wintery season. have any questions or want to get an order in early? just send me a line, and we'll chat!

happy weekend knitting dear friends! xo

baby it's cold outside....

so you'd better start putting on those layers! and who doesn't love a chevron cowl?!

yep that time of the year is now here! and wool is in the air. er.. fall is in the air, haha yah. that.  so i've whipped up a new product for the booth!

i tell ya, there's nothing like last minute add-ons :) and i love them.

these babies are super cushy and warm. oh so warm. and they're compact. they won't get in the way of your wardrobe for the day. you can wear them just with your wooly sweater, or bundle it up in your winter jacket.

they'll be making their debut at my booth at knit city this weekend! come on by and say hi. maybe try on a cowl :) i'm booth number #32. you can check out the floor plan here.

i've got a heap of things left to do before knit city, we will hop on the ferry as soon as my hubby is home from work tomorrow.. and after we pack the car. ha. and of course we're both working late tonight.

here's to much needed caffeine and squishy cowls for the colder weather. hurrah!
also, for those of you wondering about the sweater. it's a test knit i did for lilalu. i plan on having a post just for that sweater though. so stay tuned for that...

thanks so much for your patience today! i'd love to hear your thoughts on the new cowls... and for those of you interested, there just might be a pattern in the works for it ;) happy knitting... and hooking.... it's the happiest time, 'cause baby it's cold outside! xoxo

bootee says hi

my boy is a happy little man. he's waited so long for a knit for him, and being allowed to choose the yarn made it that much more exciting for him.

he even wound the skein himself (well with just a bit of help in setting up the swift.. but then he just went with it) and lo and behold i was so proud to hear him use the knitting jargon... saying "mommy when i'm done winding this round and round, it will be a beautiful cake" (!!!) what!? how cute is that!
and he's right. it was.

but the monster that came of this soft, squishy yarh? oh dear. so cute. and so so soft! clearly malabrigo is an amazing choice for this project.

it just makes the toy that much more huggable, and squeezable. i have a happy boy, and a happy monster.
though i have no idea where he get's his names from. i asked him while he was squeezing the stuffing out of the monster for the frst time what he wanted to name it... "bootee" he replied. huh? ok. well bootee it is. (that specific spelling and all). goodness i love this child. ha.

so meet bootee... he's happy to meet you too. and between you and me... he seems very sure of himself.. hummmmnnn

are you interested in whipping one of these cuties up? here are the deets:
pattern: iris the gourmet monster by rebecca danger
needle: 4.0mm
yarn: malabrigo merino worsted

i've made a few of rebecca danger's patterns now, and let me tell you, every time i just fall in love with these little critters. they're so fun to make, and so cute! you should knit one.  check out more of rebecca's designs on her etsy shop.

any quick projects you've just completed? are you a fan of toys? what's on your needles. come chat. bootee and i are listening xo

second memo

i'm pretty sure the skies never got the june memo... that it's june. not september. (not yet).
so i'm here to place a little reminder that it is infact almost summer... and i'm spreading a little summer, and sunshine your way..

Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

i have been drooling over emma's shop for quite some time. and she's a local gal to boot! lately? it's the yellows. i'm sure you would agree. i'm also not afraid to admit i've been coveting sock yarns as of late. it's true.

Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

i can't help it. i love love these colours... i've clearly been born in the wrong decade. ha. these come from fantabulosa vintage on etsy. some very cool finds there.

Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

in my opinion, nothing says summer like some funky leather jewelry. i don't know why i put those two together, but i do. and i probably always will. i have adored kiss2keep's etsy shop for freakin' ever. i have yet to own something from the shop yet, but one day i will. this particular bracelet is the starry night. it can be for either men or women, and doubles as a necklace. i loooooove... le sigh.

so because we're having another cold and windy day... in june...i will dream of the cottage...and of our tent trailer.. (as i believe it's already missing us)... curl up with my little... make popcorn, and knit away. clearly it's a very good thing i knit... i know i will be warm this summer. ;)

anyone else missing the summer weather? how are you trying to convince yourself that it's actually june? let's trick the weatherman... let's get summer here. ok?xo

6.08.2012

hellooo friday!

it's been a long week for me. and to be honest, most of it has been spent indoors... and in our jammies. both the kiddo and i have really bad coughs again. (bah)... and we're running low on energy. just the thought of bundling up for a walk in the rain.. just around the block seems really tiring for me. and that's saying a lot. we usually are out and about every day. lots and lots of walking... and momma has been missing her runs too...
we must be fighting some bug though.. and we should just rest...

and the sun will shine through the clouds soon enough. and this momma and her little will be feeling much better.... like a breath of fresh air... and freshly picked wildflowers....

but goodness, i'm looking forward to this weekend. do you realize that it's been a good month since i've last been to knit night? say whaaaat? that's right. it's been a month. crazy. so i'm determined to haul my tired toosh to knit night. i miss my girls... and could use some crafty inspiration.

Source: google.nl via Rebecca on Pinterest

i'm still uber busy with projects... there's no lack of creativity going on here...but it's always good to get a dose of inspiration. and i always get it from my knit night girls. they are all such a fabulous, and uber talented bunch. all with different gifts and strengths. we really balance eachother out well....

Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

and sometimes i just need a good kick in the butt.... i love that i have such support from you :) in fact you've encouraged me to complete a project that's been neglected far too long. pics to come up next week! and having the support from my knit night gals just helps to see through the fog.

i've got big plans for nook. but organization is key. and these girls know how to keep me focused ;) they really are my superheroes :)

Source: etsy.com via Rebecca on Pinterest

we won't be camping this weekend... just gonna rest up, and enjoy knit night :) i might even get to curl up with a good book. usually every summer i get into reading more... let's see if i can make that work while knitting... ;)

what are you up to this weekend? are you a part of a knitting group? i'd love to hear about the friends who inspire, and encourage you... xo

4.13.2012

ever since they've been making their little appearances, i've gotten so many compliments. so i think it's time they had the spotlight.

i have always loved my labels. and they were the extra touch that made nook feel real, you know? and they've now become part of what makes me recognizable. i love it!

i found them on etsy. (of course) ;) these were fantastically made by michelle, who is the force behind

with a bachelors degree in fine arts and a diploma in graphic design, she brings so much to the table. i love the detail she puts into every bit of her shop. labels aren't her only thing either, she creates everything from announcements, and invitations to stickers, wine labels, and tags.
there is something here for everyone!

and this busy woman is a mama of 2! you know that adding a bit of fun to the mix is always important.  i mean hello! creating a postcard where the recipient can cut out and assemble a mini moving van? awesome! yes. i never would have thought of an interactive moving announcement.
