finding inspiration...

if you're a follower of nook. on facebook, you will have noted that i did a crazy thing earlier this week.. (as in on monday...). i had been thinking of switching my little man's room and the yarn room around for a couple of years. his room just got too warm... and i'm sure it was not helping him settle on these hot summer nights. (hot for victoria... really i shouldn't be complaining). so i decided to finally switch the rooms. and i'm so so glad i did! though it was a massive job....  owen's new room is considerably bigger, and better suited to his needs. he's been spending so much time in there just playing. also, the yarn room is now just that. a yarn room. i was able to keep the extra toys in his room, so i feel less cluttered in here, and much happier to spend time in this space. it still has a little ways to go, but i'm so happy with this space already!
and now i finally feel that i can look for and find the inspiration i need...

i've always been the kind of person who's productivity is very influenced by my environment. i need order and cleanliness to be productive... i feel like i can finally start to breathe, and keep on top of my obligations. as you know, i do a lot of work knitting.. as well as sample knitting and test knitting... but i so have been wanting to dapple a little more in the designing department. now i finally feel like i can see, and find the inspiration i've been looking for.

it's so nice to see the yarns i have on hand.. to be surrounded by such colour, i just love it! it's just a sneak peek for you... i want the room to look just right before i show it all off to you. but it's a pic of some of my stash.
now if you'll excuse me... i've got some fibers to hug, and knitting to do!

are you a person in need of order to be productive? do you feel inspired by your stash? come chat! it's my fave topic ;) xo

  1. just recently I started to clean up my studio. Its been neglected and I was uninspired. I need to see what I had to work with. The frogged an old project and put a lot of misplaced yarn in the cubbies too. It still needs work but its getting there and so am I.
    Love you stash!

  2. I'm with you! My space has to be organized (or at least the disorder has to be hidden away where I can't see it!), or else I can't get anything done. Your yarn pile looks like it's full of inspiration!

Any tips for someone interested in doing sample and test knitting?

    1. haha don't see it, then the disorder isn't there, right? haha. i just end up making myself feel so guilty so that i HAVE to clean it out. haha. here's hoping the inspiration hits me today with a wallop! hah. in terms of doing sample and test knitting. i'd start with the test knitting.. ravelry is so great for that... usually if you see a new design pop up, but see that the pattern hasn't been released yet, you can always mention you'd be happy to test knit it... also there are test knitting "groups" in ravelry that's a great resource too... let me know if you need more specifics. xo

  3. I am so incredibly sensitive to environment and I crave light, light, and more light. Yes, order comes right behind light so I do my best to put projects that I'm working on in their proper place. It also helps me to find them again later! Hey, give your yarns a hug from me, too! They're gorgeous. ; )

    1. i agree, light is so important. it just makes everything happier, no? though a good thunderstorm and best cuppa tea make for very cozy knitting too :) haha. my yarns are feeling very loved right now. xo

  4. I NEED order. If I don't have it, well I'm worthless. What makes matters worse I am currently living with my parents saving money while going to grad school which means I am limited to my old bedroom and my uncles basement for storage for whatever doesn't fit. Which means I went from a one bedroom/living room/kitchen apartment to a bedroom. i am slowly running out of places to sore anything, but I'm surprisingly still making due and keeping a small amount of order.

    2. Oh you have no idea, I have bed raisers to lift my bed then put things of wood under to raise it higher so I can store a ton of stuff under my bed and then I have crates on there side so you can see all of my craft stuff in it. I have a shelf above my closet door with tubs of yarn and I have a few different sized baskets stacked decoratively to store large project yarn. Everything has a place and it needs to be in that place, if stuff doesn't get put away stuff piles up too quickly. But yes I long for the day that I am finally finished with being a full time student, alas it is still about two years away. I will graduate in the Spring of 2015 if all goes according to plan. Sorry this comment is so long.

    4. Thanks, after graduation will come the hard part, finding a job. I am a big lover of yarn, butin my defense for my stash they are small tubs, but if you look at my stash on ravelry you can get a good idea of the size of my stash, but even that's deceiving because it looks like a lot when really at least half it are leftovers. And well my needles are quite full, I have the annis almost finished with the lace, the pontos three inches from the sleeves, the ease which is almost finished with the waist dec., the abate which I only have a sleeve and the neck to do, and the long sands which is the new one from Amy Christophers which I am at the back. I gave up on project monogamy this past winter. With that being said all of those, but the annis have been worked on this week. I also have a helix scarf and pair of socks hibernating.

    6. Thanks! It just seems to be that the job market here in WV is kind of tight and not many people are retiring from school counseling positions.

  5. My stash is mostly hidden because I fear moths, even with a moth hunter for a cat. (Literally, she only wakes up at night to stalk moths, may flies, etc.) But I feel inspired just looking at your stash! I live in a tiny, old house that's somewhat cluttered. But I can only handle clutter to a point, any more and I feel completely overwhelmed. I have no interest in moving one day, unless its very far north where I can wear my sweaters. But as my daughter prepares for college, I find myself thinking about what I'll do with a couple of empty bedrooms one day. My sons room has great light....
You have knit so many awesome things, I'd love to see more of your designs.

    1. i completely understand the fear of moths! if we had lots of them here, you can bet i'd be storing my yarn differently :) i bet our cat baxter would have fun chasing them though. your house sounds lovely! and full of character! i love old houses! and lucky you 2 rooms to play with!!! swoon. thanks so much for the knitterly love. i just have to kick myself in the butt to get going on the design.. ;) it will happen though... soon... xo
