rolls royce of knitting?

woah. that is some wind out there! it woke us up last night a few times, and the rain was just coming down sideways. really not the best day for my honey to be going out to sea.. i'm certainly proud of him though!
but as it's really that windy, we're staying in today...

want to know what's on my mind? these needles....

aren't they just divine~!! they are the signature knitting needle. and i'm seriously swooning over them. i have seen them being called the rolls royce of knitting needles, and i can see why. they certainly come with a pretty price tag... but oh do i ever want to try them out. tell me, have any of you tried or do you own signature needles? what do you think? are they beyond worth the price tag?

and aren't these the prettiest stitch markers? just something else to stare at on this blustery monday morning. ;) lol.

seriously though, it wasen't all that long ago when i invested in the knit picks set, and don't get me wrong. i love them. lots. i haven't been unhappy with them at all! i'm just wondering now about these beautiful needles. my biggest concern is that i will only want to knit with them. lol! don't worry though knit picks. i still love you. heaps.

tell me, do you have any coveted needles and yarn that you just adore no matter the price tag? i'd love to hear about it, and swoon over it with you! let's chat... it's far to windy and cold, and wet to go outside today. xo

  1. It's a super crazy wind this AM. Hopefully it will calm down for this afternoon when I do have to leave the house!

I have several sets of signature needles, both straight and dpn and I love them so much. They aren't super slippery like most metal needles as the coloured part is just a bit "matte" feeling (not sure how to describe it, but there is a subtle resistance). So, not quite as sleek as an Addi Turbo, but definitely more slippery than a wooden needle. I love working on them. They are super pretty and super functional. You just have to careful not to leave them anywhere someone will sit on them!

I also love that you have the option of choosing your tip "sharpness". I have a mix of choices and I'm not really sure what my favourite is yet, although the stiletto version does scare me a little bit.

After I get my inventory done of my circulars :), I plan to make a wish list up for which ones I'd like of the signatures. I give this list to my husband for birthdays and Christmases and let him "surprise" me. It's worked well so far.

Because they are so pricey, I don't take anything I'm knitting on them out of the house. It's a rule. :) Fortunately, I always seem to have more than one project on the needles at a time, so it's all good.

  2. Oh... and I have two sets of dpns on order from this place: http://www.dyakcraft.com/wood.htm.

It's a bit of a wait (I ordered back in the fall and I'm hoping to see them by the summer), but it will be so worth it when they finally come. I had a set of knitpicks that I sent back because they smelled funny (and I'm not tolerant of funny smells), so then I went hunting. People also love these needles a whole lot. I have been wondering about their interchangeable circulars, but I haven't figured that out yet. It's either these or signatures, that I do know.

(I'm a sucker for great gear.)

    1. ohmygoodness those are gorgeous!! i can't wait to hear what you think about those needles! that sure is one long wait! personally, i'm attracted to the stilleto of the signature needles. eeps! but i have heard they are sharp! it's a good idea to have a list of the ones i'd really like to try with specifics and have my hubby see that list in time for christmas or bday shopping. :)
i do think that the best tools make for the most enjoyable knits though. for sure. xo

  3. Holy smokes! The weather is KA-RAZY! WInd... rain... my friend who lives in esquimalt says that her neighbor's trampoline outside was in danger of lifting off the ground... eep!

But wow! Those needles look amazing! I'll never be able to afford them. But they are definitely lovely. And those stitch markers are pretty little things as well. before I started back into knitting I was beading. I think I may have to start making some too :)

It wasn't until just recently that I learned about luxurious yarns. My first taste of luxury was Zitron Opus 1 yarn (100% merino infused with jojoba and aloe vera) it's so soft and lovely and, for me, worth the $25 price tag mostly because it was the only skein in the whole store that were the colours that I had been searching for but could never find: Lavenders & Greys. So i bought it...

    2. I found a colour-way that I'm in love with... "Dove" From Tanis Fiber Arts. Sadly I don't think anyone on the island carries it but a few places on the mainland carry it. I love it on the website but I dont' know if I can order it online without seeing & feeling it for myself (is that weird?). I'm also totally crushing on Sweet Georgia Yarn too... and maybe when I start working again I can save up to get some.

So... stitch markers eh? I shall make a note of it... hee hee ~.^

  4. I have both signature and Dyakcraft in both circular and dpns. I prefer the signature dpns but love the dyakcraft wood interchangables. I have a couple circular signatures, which I love but I prefer interchangable circular needle sets. For metal interchangables, I rate ChiaGoo with the red cords number one and Addi long lace as #2. I own the Dyakcraft metal interchangable but I don't like them as well as the ChiaGoo or Addi

  5. Those certainly are some nice needles! I haven't ventured that far into the high end of tools, save for my Knit Picks circs and dpns. I agree that good tools = good quality handknits...and yarn is included in that! My favourite is Shoppelwolle Zauberball, but that might change with my next trip to my LYS :) Don't get blown away in the wind today!

  6. My very first pair of Signatures I got a friend to buy for me when she was at Sock Summit. I got them in a 3.5mm cause that's the size I seem to use the most. I had knit a cardigan with them and seriously believe that they are the reason I was able to knit that cardi as fast as I did. I was beyond hooked. I had to get more. I had saved up and wait (and waited!) for a better shipping deal before I ordered sizes 3.25mm up to a 4mm. This same friend had also found a knitter on Ravelry who was selling her barely used Sigs cause they were just too slippery for her, so I bought 2 from her for a great price.

I have the stilettos (which is fantastic for cabling without a cable needle and for lace) and absolutely LOVE the flexible cables on them. I still love my Knit Picks set, but I find myself picking these needles to use over all my other needles and will put projects on waste yarn just so that I can use them!

I also have 2 pairs of interchangeable tips and cables from DyakCraft...they took over 8 months to get to me but are simply divine! I've definitely been thinking of saving up to get a full set because they really do knit like buttah and heard that they have improved the flexibility of the cables.

I don't have the Signature DPNs but have seen/felt them in person and they are much different from the circulars in the sense that they are ribbed and the circs aren't. The DPNs are also deadly pointy. I know so many people who have drawn blood with them!

We should meet up for a coffee knit date again and you can see/feel/test out the Sigs for yourself if you want!

    1. oh man melissa, you have me envying your needle stash as well as your yarn stash. lol! i would LOVE LOVE to get together and knit with you again!!!! and if i get to test out the sigs too that's a total bonus! i guess i'll have to start saving up! do the cables on sigs get pretty long if needed?
      xo

  7. stay away from the stiletto tips if you're a tight knitter. i have the 2.5mm stiletto dpn set sitting around pretty much unused because they just freakin' hurt so much. and don't you girls dare have a signature/coffee/knit date without me!!
