sometimes i surprise myself....

especially when i take a look at the calendar :)

because here i was all disappointed that i hadn't finished these in time for the kal deadline (which i had set) and then i realized that hrmmm the last day of january is totally still part of the kal! i finished these babies with 10 minutes to spare on january 31. yes people, i pushed on until midnight to finish them!

and? i love them :) i made one little boo-boo that i can think of and that is making the foot a little long, but meh.. that's all good in my books.
i am a big fan of this yarn. and from what i've been hearing, you are too! these colours are fab. and i love how the stripes are turning out. pretty cool for this pattern.
at the beginning of the project, i was totally digging the small yarn and small needles. and i think i still like them, but i also think it's nice to even it out with projects on larger needles too.
it's not my only sock pattern to tackle... buuut, probably my only skew. for a while anyways.

i didn't hate knitting it at all. it's just strange to me in it's construction. and i think i've mentioned before that it would be nice to have some mindless sock knitting. sometimes the most basic of socks can be a fave. .... so long as you have the right yarn :)
when i bought the yarn for this project, i was seriously planning on using an entire skein for each sock. i got close. here's what i'm left with. ...

i just really wanted to be wearing the socks already, and i think that they were getting long enough. what do you think?

so wahoooo for me for getting them done on time! and now i've got to get knitting! babies have been born and they need some knitted gifts!!  my knit night girls are all getting together to do a group order with knitpicks (so exciting when it arrives, it's like christmas day for us all!) and i'll be picking yarn for gifts.. i'll be sure to share with you once i decide on pattern and yarn! this will be my first big yarn order and i'm pretty excited!

so how about you? have you caught yourself staring at the calendar, and then realizing you actually have already accomplished something you thought you didn't? do you go together with friends to do group orders? do you stick to your guns on what you'll order or are you easily swayed to order what everyone else is ordering...'cause it's pretty. hahah let's hope that doesn't happen to me! i always love hearing from you, let's chat! have a beautiful thursday, full of little surprises :) xo

  1. Your Skews look so awesome Rebecca!!! Congrats on finishing your first pair! Sadly I didn't even get the first sock done...I got pulled too deep into my Starteritis. They'll get done though, I promise! I think striping yarns look best with this pattern and I really like how your cuffs look. I'm planning on making mine into knee socks, but I totally understand that feeling of just wanting to wear the socks pronto!

My knitting group always do group KP orders, and my friends and I always do group orders for online shops...it helps to split up the shipping costs and being able to justify it in the end. Although it does suck if you ever get dinged with customs, but again, having to split that cost helps ease the sting. Sometimes my friends and I share yarn subscriptions too, but that can be deadly and almost can't recommend doing it as you're just enabling each other to buy more yarn. All in all though, I don't think anyone gets swayed to buy more yarn or to change their orders...I find I know what I want from the get-go, until the order arrives and you can finally see in person what a colourway looks like or how a particular yarn feels. Can't wait to see your stash enhancements! :)

  3. Great job! I absolutely love them.

Group order and knitpicks...sounds heavenly. I desperately long for a knit night, maybe I should just suck it up and start one myself. The only one that i found on ravelry is on the other side of the Bronx and quite a hike from my apt.

Hope you ladies enjoy yourself! I dream of one day joining y'all...

    1. yes i love the idea of this group order. i really refrained from the last one, so i'm looking forward to this! are there people close to you who are interested in knitting? you should totally start one up at a local coffee shop near you! and then when i come to new york (one day) we can totally knit it up. well we would anyways... ;)xo

  6. So I know what you can do with your scrap yarn and it'll help with the baby knitting too...wanna know? Of course you do...baby booties or baby socks! I've made these little magic slippers http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magic-slippers before and I thought it would use up all the scraps...yeah not even close and they were so adorable too...

There's always Saartje's Booties http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saartjes-bootees been in my queue for like ever but still I've yet to make them...so stinkin' adorable though.

Your socks look fabulous and maybe...just maybe I'll finish a pair again this year. I've got me an idea but I have to let it simmer a bit.

  7. Yay, you did it! Good job. They look great, still loving the yarn as much as the first day! And I think they are QUITE long enough, I know I wouldn't want to go on any further ;) & I totally agree that its nice to mix up yarn and needle sizes. Maybe that's why I keep so many things on the needles all the time. I always want to have SOMETHING I can work on in any mood!
