keeping up... sort of...

we are still away from home... until tomorrow night. but i want to know, how are your skews coming along? i am on my second skew now... and still loving it! which is awesome, because i thought i might be one of those people who would have the "second sock syndrome" waa waaaa... but i don't. so that is good. :)

what do you think about the pattern? is it very different from any other type of sock that you've knitted before? though i don't have a ton of experience in knitting socks, this i can tell is not the average sock pattern. i do find it interesting though, and that keeps me wanting to keep on knitting.

i am loving the tiny needles and yarn, and i'm really looking forward to when i can be donning my pair of skews! woo hoo! and who knows? this time next year i might have a drawer full of warm wooly socks. :)

(and cold). hahaha so i hope we're all going to be keeping our feet toasty warm with our new skews soon!!!
in other knitting news....

i have been knitting like a crazy lady. (but that's not really news is it...)... i cast on for a sweater on friday, and i'm almost done the body as of now. i totally think that's news-worthy! this is such an awesome pattern, and i can't wait to show you the finished product!

and how about you? did you have a good weekend? what are you up to this week? do you have lots of knitting plans? sewing? baking? i'd love to hear about it.... how are you keeping warm? xo

    2. Working on a darkside cowl, hoping it moves quickly as I've got a hat to cast on for a friend - Wurm or hurricane. Not sure yet. I'm itching to sew another project bag for a friend's b-day next month. And I'm baking bread, of course. ;)
P.S. This threaded commenting is cool - although I wish it emailed me that you'd replied...maybe I need to tell it to do that?

    4. Oops, never responded....In Wordpress it sends an email when I reply to someone. I can't see when you respond here. I wonder how that works here. I've tried the subscribe by email button but then it wants me to subscribe to ALL comments.
Hope you made it home safely! Were you driving?

  4. So about the sock knitting...I just discovered that my favorite pair of socks (store bought) have a hole in them. I refuse to wear hole-y socks (though it is small so I may fix it on the sewing machine). Guess what my first thought was when I saw the hole? Yes, that's right "I can just knit myself a pair." OH.MY.GOODNESS! I am crazy...I still have a second sock to finish from like 2 years ago...and I'm just gonna make myself a fresh pair of socks!

The scary part is, I probably will :)

    Enjoy your vacation!

  5. This is a bit of a crazy sock pattern, I will say that, but it's still one of my favorites. I'm just about to the ankle of the second sock, so I'm hoping the ones for the hubs will be done by the end of the week... and just maybe I can cast on for mine and pull off two pairs by the end of the month. The color combo on these really surprised me though, it's got this Native American vibe going on. He loves it though, and apparently the mods are all working out because it's fitting great.

    2. Considering you're working on other projects, we'll let me passing you up slide. ;) This is my second pair of skews, but my 7th pair of socks, plus I made stockings for us this year, which are basically big socks. I like the way socks have a variety of pieces to the construction, and aren't too repetitive. They are also super portable, which is great. Plus I like that the yardage is 350-500, so they aren't super expensive. That's been my discouragement from sweaters is buying so much yarn. Keep going, once you get those hand knit socks on your feet, it will be hard to go back to store bought!

    3. i really am enjoying the process of this pattern! and with it being so cold now, i just want to finish them and wear them! (and then maybe start another pair. hahaha). you should totally knit a sweater though! there are some great ones where you don't need all that much yarn... i knit the oatmeal pullover by jane richmond, and used a kertzer yarn as a sample for the shop.. i only used 2 skeins! crazy. it would have cost less than $40. that's not too shabby for a sweater, i think.
you are a machine with socks! what is your go-to pattern? xo

    4. The book I mentioned on one of the other KAL posts, Sensational Knitted Socks, is my go to for sock patterns. It makes them really custom fit for any person, and allows a lot of creativity from you. Basically each "chapter" of the book is based on the number of stitches in your repeat (i.e. k2,p2 is in the 4 stitch sock section). She includes a variety of the possible designs for that section, but you can substitute any design with the same stitch count into the pattern. You can also customize the kind of heel you want, and there are tips for wide feet, higher insteps, etc. *Ok, book plug over*

I have done a Shalom cardigan, which I accomplished with 1 skein of Cascade Eco, and I love it. I'm really trying hard at this point to knit from stash though, and that doesn't lend itself kindly to sweaters. P.S. I am working on getting my own self into blogland soon, so more details and pictures of projects (knitting and otherwise) will be coming.

    5. i will definitely have to check that book out! sounds awesome! i can't believe how much yardage is in a skein of cascade eco. crazy! i've not yet knitted with the eco, but it's on my list of to do's. i always hear positive feedback on that wool. also, yippee for venturing into blogland!!! be sure to let me know! i am looking forward to it! xoxoxo
