i don't really know what it is, but i always seem to wish for all things retro. am i alone on this one?

in style, and in knitting too... well not really always in knitting... i like the fit better now in most garments than they used to be... you know what i'm talking about... no more armpits of your sweaters lining up with your belly button.. no, i like them tighter than that. the arms i mean... :)

i don't know, i just seem to be drawn to colours that make me think of days gone by... i'm sure the styles i'm thinking of and longing for are styles my mom used to wear... i was too young to really revel in those styles...

don't get me wrong... there are a lot of great new styles out there! and i like them a lot too! and i'll be knitting them, i promise!
but there's something about cuddling up to an old granny square or ripple blanket with an aged copy of your fav book... isn't there?

well whatever it is, i like it. it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.... and i totally wish i had some of the things that my parents had on their walls, to decorate my place....

haha... but don't tell the hubs. we might not see eye to eye on that one :) just looking at these colours makes me want to craft. so here's hoping i get up to that this weekend!

what about you? are you a fan of the '70's? does it make you want to craft by a bonfire, sipping wine out of a little pottery mug? leave me a note and let's chat! you never know, you could be inspired! wishing you a groovy weekend!

  1. Oh Becca, some days I read your blog and wonder if we're twins separated at birth! I am totally with you on this, except I'm wishing for the decorations that my Grandma had not my mom (she was a little more modern than that). I adore pottery mugs...especially if they have the two tone brown glazed with speckles. I have a few I've thrifted (much to my husbands consternation).

Just the other day I was talking with my in-laws and they were discussing furniture that was from the 50s-70s in style and colour...they were appalled but my heart was quickening at the thought of a melamine tabletop with chrome edging and an avocado green fridge.

  2. bah, i would LOVE an avocado green fridge!!! yep, we could be twins ;) good to know that i'm not alone in this form of coveting. haha.. it just makes me so happy! and i know exactly the type of mugs you're talking about ;) i have an old brown mug with a white bottom, that my mom used to own and love before i was a baby..... it's so special to me, and clearly my fav mug to drink out of. :)

  3. Mmm, avocado green, one of my fave colours! I love the alphabet, those colours totally make me want to craft!

  4. yaaay! that alphabet makes me want to be whipping out some embroidery thread right now! haha. love it.

  5. You know I'm with you on this! I think we were cut from the same cloth my dear!

  6. Wow! I am amazed at how many of us there are with this penchant for the retro colors of the 70s! The high school I went to had been built in the 70s and hadn't been updated on the interior. So the floors were a lovely orange tile and the walls were half orange and half cream and all the wings of were labeled by study in that awesome bubble letter in orange as well. I LOVED IT! Oh, my I got teased for liking it but didn't care (too much) the colors spoke to me.

I think it's time for a retro color revolution! Bring back the green, orange and harvest gold :)
