yellow goodness.

although today isn't officially the first day of spring, i'm officially welcoming it! welcome march!

'tis the time for warm rains, lots of blooms, sweet smelling air, new babies, yellows, and this year, i'm going to try a few new things... one is sewing a garment (yikes)... and another would be trying an indoor garden of sorts. that one might be tricky, as we have a kitty... so i'll have to keep you posted.

do any of you have experience with this? i really would so love to grow herbs indoors. and i know it's entirely possible, however it's more just figuring out how to do that and keep a cat away from it. ha. hrmmm any tips would be greatly appreciated.

i'm also getting excited to use brighter colours! i have it on good authority that my knitpicks order is almost here! weeeeeee! of course, i've already gotten another wish list started. haha. but in the meantime, watching all of those hours of downton abbey have been very beneficial to my knitting... take a look at what's just about finished!

of course, i love this pattern. as it's the second time that i've knit jane richmond's classic raglan pullover. and probably not the last. and if it's something you're hankering to give a try.. check out canadian living! they're doing a kal for this pattern.. starting tomorrow! the details are on their blog.

and here's a little sneak peek at what i'll be swatching with today!

hint... it's 100% linen. this is a first for me :)
yep. spring is starting to show it's colours in this house! yippeee!! but you probably can't tell that i'm excited...

what are you up to today? what's on your needles? any big plans for spring? what is your favourite thing about this season? are you an indoor gardener? i'd love to hear any tips you may have for my impending indoor herb (and maybe more) garden! come chat! i'm about to brew a big pot of coffee. xo

  1. I have a few indoor plants but I've only ever bought 1 basil plant and that was in the middle of winter...bussed home = dead basil by the time it made it in the door. I have grown cherry tomatoes & carrots & lettuce on my balcony before though! I also tried growing rainbow swiss chard from the seed but pigeons ate it :(
I love that shade of golden yellow, it's so fun. I have yarn for a few projects in that color! It definitely adds some sunshine to my snow stormy day today.

    1. yes yellow is making a grand appearance here :) and i hope to see much more of it. i had heard that lettuce was a great hearty plant to grow. i think i might give that a try... we have a covered balcony though, so that makes tomatoes tricky for me.. too bad, as i absolutely LOVE them.
what projects do you have in mind for yellow yarn? xo

    2. You should try lettuce! I really liked having it.

Well, I'm currently finishing up a pair of socks with a bit of yellow in them. THEN I am also knitting some gansey socks in a beautiful golden color. I also ordered the same yarn as the sample for this pattern : http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wrapped-pullover. Can't wait to make it!

  3. As much as I adore yellow, I can't wear most of them, so I'll just admire your pretty sweater. You're right, spring and yellow just go together...

I didn't knit a single stitch while I was home (that's a whole week, fyi!) which is just crazy when I think about it! I need to catch up before it's too warm to wear my sweater!

My mom moved all her plants in for the winter so her living room looks like a flower garden. I don't have a garden and probably won't in L.A. either, but I'm going to do my best to at least grow some herbs and cacti inside.

can't wait to see what you're making with that pretty linen yarn!

    1. oh my, hannah! you've got some serious knitting to do! bahahah who are we kidding, you're so uber fast, you'll catch up in no time. xoxo i think that i'll probably be doing mostly herbs as well.. and now owlmazingmakes has me thinking of lettuce! i really wish i could grow tomatoes, alas i think it's just too shady on my balcony. and we just don't get the extreme heat here in victoria.

  4. Good luck on your indoor garden! My kitties have often caused trouble along those lines. You can try dousing your plants with pepper (like regular table pepper) if they bug them because it makes them sneeze and stay away. But it might make you sneeze and stay away...
