monday already? it's ok though. i had a great weekend,- ridiculously fast weekend, mind you - but a great weekend nonetheless. i ran my first 5k! yippee! i'll get into that in a bit though. because first thing's first.
did you know that march is national crochet month?
it totally is.
i think crochet is a bit misunderstood. and it's funny to me that there are a lot of knitters who refuse to pick up the hook as well, but crochet is really making quite a comeback. it's not just granny squares, though the whole granny square has changed too ;)
i'm excited about this being a month to celebrate crochet, and i plan on taking part!
of course my knitting needles will remain as busy as ever (so knitters, don't you worry). but maybe we should all pick up a hook! it will be fun! and it's a great way to enjoy yarny crafts in the warmer months (yes.. they are coming).
crochet is also a great use of leftover yarns. trust me. this is such a wonderful thing! i can really be cleaning up my stash, to make room for more gorgeous fibers. oooOOOoo. yes this is exciting!
i love that crochet is so versatile! and quick too. you can whip up a seat cover in no time ;) (well... depending on the size, i suppose)
crochet has really grown into a force of it's own. it's true!
and i have to say i'm certainly inspired to pick up my hook. how about you? linda permann certainly has a talent for making crochet almost look like knitting! check out this adorable owl from her book little crochet.
of course i had to run out to get the book as quick as i could :) so what do you think? are you inspired? want to give your hand a go at crocheting? i bet you do! how can you not after all of these pics? (well that's what i think anyways. haha)
recently a gorgeous photo of my jardain coasters were featured in mollie makes. shannon, of luvinthemommyhood is the talent behind the camera here, and she also shares a love for crochet! these would be a great project to start off the month that celebrates crochet!
just head on over here to check out the full tutorial on how to whip up a few of these lovelies! you can also find the tutorial over on versus!
ps. here's a pic of me after the race. i had fun! and i'm looking forward to my next race :) i reached my goal of completing the race without walking at all ;) i'll be more concerned about my time next race. that being said, i ran it in under 30 min! a wonderful first experience for sure!
so what do you say? let's all pick up our hooks and get at 'er! besides look at all of the lovely colours to have our eyes feast upon! it's a great month for crochet.. indeed!
are you a fan of both knitting and crochet? or do you swing only to one side? have you always wanted to try crochet? come join in for a month of hooking! i'd love to hear of what your "must makes" are, as well as how your weekend went! come chat. i've got my yarn and needles, and hooks at the ready;) xo
