confession.....

i think that sometimes , well no a lot of times it's hard to embrace your mistakes in knitting. you've put so . much. effort. into your overall project, and then to find out all of that work has to be ripped out? it's sad.

but i think it's important too... because we always learn from our mistakes, right? ...right??
i still really like this pattern, but my mistake came in such a rooky way. i didn't measure correctly. the size is right, but each bar of stitches are just a little bit too short.
short enough that i won't wear this. :(

but i still want to put more effort into this piece. i learned so much from it. new stitches, and techniques... (and apparently the need to be measuring correctly)...

so... once i grab another skein (in as close to this dye lot as possible) of  el.d.mouzakis butterfly super 10,  and take the biggest, deepest breath ever... i'll be ripping ripping ripping....
and then i'll be re-starting make up your mind by knittedbliss JC. because this pattern is totally worth it... and it deserves it...
and when it's done, it will fit like it should.

Make Up Your Mind by knittedblissJC
i know it will be worth it.. but i'm not ripping it out just yet. i'm talking about it. first step is admitting your mistakes.. ;) and once i have a few other projects finished, you can be sure i'll be toting this around with me.

how about you? do you have projects sitting on the top shelf, at the very back that you're ignoring because it just didn't turn out the way you thought it would? this isn't the only one for me... will you re-address it, and make it just the way you like? or is it going to stay in "time-out"? come chat! it's always nice to know that you're not the only one with big boo-boos. ;) xo

  1. Ouch. I hate that. I have a few things put away that I'm not brave enough to give up on. Make you have a hot drink (or a strong drink) and chunk of chocolate at the ready when you do start to rip. It will help muchly. :)

  3. Woah! Mucho kudos to you Rebecca! Good luck with the whole project! It's so hard to have to go back and re-knit an entire project again. But I agree, sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and just go for it. The end result will be SO worth it!! If anyone can do it, it's you. That colour and design is too good to let just sit in your closet!

  4. Its a lovely colour! Is it just too short in the body? Could you add some length insted of ripping back?

    1. i had honestly thought of that, but the more i look at it, and when it's on me, and when i re-measure.. it will be much better if i extend each bar... le sigh. but it's ok. it will turn out even better than before :) xo

  5. Oh, I so know what you mean! Still check out Ravelry to see if you can find some yarn in the right dye lot. Sometimes people have left over skeins and will sell them to you or trade them for your leftovers in something they need. Though with the pattern it won't matter too much if your dye lot is off with the pattern.

Side note: You do remember that cotton grows … is it super short? Or perhaps just needs a leetle bit of time to grow? If not…just have lots of chocolate nearby when you frog it :)

    1. i think that the cc(where i teach)actually has the yarn i need... and you're right, the dye lot won't be too crucial for this type of pattern... i did realize that cotton grows, but sadly not enough for how i knit it. haha. frogging will just have to happen. oh well. :)

  6. Virtual hand-holding and hugs at the ready! You can do it! And, like others have said, it will be so worth it!

I had to frog my oatmeal sweater(I was so in denial, I knit up waaaaay more of it than necessary to know it was going to be too small!). It's always painful, but that's what chocolate, or in my case, salt and vinegar chips are for!
