one of the reasons i love cascade so much is not only the awesome colourways, but the affordability of the yarn. if i could afford a sweater's worth in malabrigo i'd totally splurge for it....
but am i being too narrow minded?
do you have an absolute fave go-to worsted weight yarn?
i might just end up using the cascade, and i'll be totally happy with it... but you know, i'm completely open to suggestions ;)
of course, once the yarn is chosen, i have to pick colour... tricky tricky business for me. this is going to be a striped sweater...
so then i'm also open to suggestions ;) tricky not because i don't know what goes well together, i just love all of the colourways. but ummmm i'm not knitting a rainbow sweater.
so tell me... what's your fave go-to worsted weight? are we one in the same with the cascade 220? help! xo
Love cascade too but I recently aquired some Ella Rae classic and I'm liking it too. Lots of colours in that one and a good price point as well. But.... you know if a good thing ain't broke....
ReplyDeleteit's true, if i am loving cascade so much, i wonder why i would deter from it. maybe just to know.. you know? :)
DeleteI don't see any reason to stray from your tried and true! Malabrigo is certainly dreamy soft and I'm knitting my next project with it. From what I hear I may have to have a lint eater at the ready, but it doesn't detract from my love for it.
ReplyDeleteI love knitpicks Swish yarn too. I preferred the Merino Style but they discontinued it and it was a light worsted anyway.
What stripy project are you knitting? Or is it another surprise?
xo
the pic with this post makes it very hard for me to sway from cascade hahaha. i have tried the swish too. it's super soft! hrmm as for the project? it's a surprise :) but i'll be able to post progress pics. xo
DeleteMy workhorse yarn is probably Galway Worsted, just because my LYS stocks it instead of Cascade 220. But my favorite sweater is actually in Lion Brand Fisherman's wool, although it is not, unfortunately, pilling A TON.
ReplyDeleteyou know, i too have found horrible pill issues with the fisherman's wool. i still have some of it, but i think i'll save it for felting projects... i've knit with the galway worsted too. it's a good one, though not as soft as cascade....
DeleteAgree! My first raglan is pilling like crazy :( That makes me sad!
Deletei knit a sweater for owen out of it, and one for myself. i've actually since donated the sweaters, because i had depilled them 3x and it was still bad :(
DeleteI know of what you speak ... sometimes we just want to go out of our comfort zone or simply try something new. My go-to is Malabrigo but I've been known to knit a few items in Cascade, too. If you haven't knit with Madelinetosh yet, I strongly recommend it. It's on the expensive side but the textures and colors are truly stunning. A word of caution: MadTosh is highly addictive!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, i wish i could have malabrigo as my go-to! and yes, i've knit with the madtosh once. for my first rae. and i blogged about it here: http://inanook.blogspot.ca/2011/09/one.html
Deletemy goodness, it was ah-mazing! but yes, on the pricey side... i wish i could afford a sweater's worth... and considering i'm going to need almost 1100 yards.... sigh... one day ;)
I've heard Malabrigo worsted pills like a donkey too. That's why I've steered clear of it soft or not.
DeleteYou know Becca I don't have a favorite yarn. I don't have a huge budget for yarn, but I am a pro at shopping around. I find that you can get great deals on yarn either by trolling Ravelry or just keeping up on your LYS sales. Many shops have bags of yarn, either discontinued or they just ordered too many and they bag them up at a hefty discount. Once I bought a couple bags of Rowan Damask, each had 4 balls in them, for $8 so you know a $1 a ball.
ReplyDeleteI personally hate Knit Picks Swish...it pills horrible and splits and well...I won't ever use it ever again. I like Ella Rae and Knit Picks wool of the Andes and I Jojoland has some nice affordable yarns. Though to be honest I prefer to use wool blends I find the things I dislike in a 100% wool (pilling, scratchy) is fixed by the blend.
you aren't kidding, you can find a deal!! that's so awesome!
